• 1. Introduction
  This Privacy Policy explains how Pop Cult Trivia ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application (the "App"), available on iOS and Android. We collect only what we need to run your account, your quizzes, and the leaderboards. Pop Cult Trivia is used by individuals in the United States, including California, and in the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA). This Policy includes the disclosures required under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
• 2. Information We Collect
  We collect the following categories of information:

  • Phone number and country: collected when you create an account and used to send you a one-time SMS login code.
  • Username: chosen by you. Your username is public: it is shown to other players on the leaderboards.
  • Gameplay activity: the questions you answer, whether each answer was correct, your daily and weekly quiz results, and the scores, streaks, and rankings calculated from them.
  • Device information: a device identifier, device name, operating system and version, App version, and a push notification token, used to keep you signed in and to send notifications you have allowed.
  • Subscription records: when you subscribe, the Apple App Store or Google Play Store sends us transaction details (such as the product purchased, purchase and renewal dates, and subscription status) so we can activate your subscription. We never receive your payment card or billing details.

  We do not collect your name, email address, precise location, contacts, photos, or browsing activity outside the App. If you contact us through our website, we receive the name, email address, phone number, and message you choose to send, and use them only to respond to you.
• 3. How We Use Your Information
  We use your information to:

  • Create and maintain your Pop Cult Trivia account and let you log in
  • Run the daily and weekly quizzes and record your results
  • Calculate scores, streaks, and rankings, and display the leaderboards
  • Send push notifications, such as new-quiz reminders, if you allow them on your device
  • Verify and manage your subscription
  • Detect and prevent cheating, fraud, abuse, or unauthorized account access
  • Fix bugs and improve the App

  The App contains no advertising. We do not use your information for advertising of any kind, and we do not build advertising profiles.
• 4. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/EEA Users)
  If you are located in the EU/EEA, we process your information under the following legal bases recognized by the GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): to create your account, run quizzes and leaderboards, and provide any subscription you purchase.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): to keep accounts secure, keep the leaderboards fair, and improve the App.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): to send push notifications, which you can turn off at any time in your device settings.
• 5. How We Share Your Information
  We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the App, and only as needed for them to do so:

  • Twilio, to deliver your SMS login code
  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, to deliver push notifications
  • Apple and Google, to process and verify subscriptions
  • Our hosting providers, to store and serve App data

  Your username, scores, streaks, and rankings are visible to other players on the leaderboards. Your phone number is never shown to other players. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Pop Cult Trivia, our users, or others. Under the CCPA/CPRA, "sharing" includes disclosures for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information as defined by California law.
• 6. Data Storage, Retention, and Security
  Your information is stored using industry-standard encryption and access controls. We retain it for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we delete your phone number, username, device records, and gameplay history from our active systems within 1 day, except where retention is required to comply with a legal obligation, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Subscription records held by Apple or Google are governed by their own privacy policies.
• 7. Account and Data Deletion
  You can delete your account and its associated data directly within the App via Settings > Account > Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, and your username will be removed from all leaderboards. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription; cancel it through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. You may also request deletion by emailing us at the address in Section 10.
• 8. Your Privacy Rights
  California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
  If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

  Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is no opt-out required for those activities. To exercise any right, contact us using the details in Section 10. We will verify your request using your phone number on file before acting on it.
  EU/EEA Residents (GDPR)
  If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate data
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent to push notifications at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

  To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 10. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
• 9. Children's Privacy
  Pop Cult Trivia is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA, where applicable), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.
